My Asia since 2005 by Marina

| Words by Marina Hamann |

Joining Insider Journeys back in 2005, Marina is one of our most experienced Asia Specialists. Marina’s holidays and research trips in Asia have so far taken her to Vietnam, Cambodia, China, India and Japan. We asked Marina few questions about Asia, her travels there and we also managed to get some great photos of her trips so far!

1. Where in Asia were you last?

I was in Cambodia which is home to one of my favourite cities in Asia, Siem Reap. I have also spent a month travelling around Thailand and Laos; a perfect combination!

2. What’s next on the wish-list?

I have been inspired to travel to Burma since the recent return of some of our staff members and their raving reports on how fascinating country is. The people being so friendly, the amazing temples and the beauty of this “un-touched” part of Asia is a huge draw.

3. What’s your favourite experience so far?

Bathing the Elephants in the Nam Khan river Luang Prabang. To get so involved with the Elephants with in quite epic surroundings was really calming and a truly fun experience! I cannot recommend it enough!

4. What do you miss most from Asia when you’re back in Australia?

I always return home from Asia mostly missing the friendly people I meet pretty much everywhere I go. And without a doubt the cuisine. There is so much variety in fresh produce and when cooked by the locals the flavours are just amazing!

5. Favourite dish & beverage?

Congee from Cambodia. White rice with a chicken or pork broth, and served with fresh bean sprouts! Beverage wise my favourite, no matter where I am, is always a Long Island Iced Tea! It’s a perfect way to cool down in the Asian heat.
