Small Group Tour Itinerary

Days 1-3:

TOKYO

Arrive in Tokyo and transfer to your hotel. Embark on a tour of the city, taking in a walk of an ancient neighbourhood, Yanaka, and a calligraphy class. Visit a bonsai museum and historic street market, as well as the Tokyo National Museum.

Days 4-6:

YUDANAKA & MATSUMOTO

Travel by train to Obuse, and visit its museum and temple. Continue on to Yudanaka and arrive at your traditional inn or 'ryokan' for the night. Enjoy the onsite onsen and a traditional dinner. Explore the snow monkey park and visit Zenkoji in Nagano, one of Japan's most significant temples. Journey by train to Matsumoto, where you will tour a wasabi farm, art museum and castle.

Matsumoto Tokyu REI Hotel

Right in front of Matsumoto Station is this property, an ideal location for seeing the many attractions in Nagano. It is within easy reach of the famous Asama Onsen, and only a short drive from Matsumoto Castle and the Matsumoto Folkcraft Museum, and a visit to see the wild snow monkeys at nearby Jigokudani Monkey Park is a delight. Rooms are spacious by Japanese standards and comfortably furnished. There is a Japanese restaurant on-site serving breakfast and dinner, or venture out to one of the many delicious restaurants just a short walk from your front door.

Days 7-9:

TOYAMA & KYOTO

Spend a day exploring scenic Chubu Sangaku National Park. Travel to Kyoto and enjoy a free day getting to know the city's history, gardens or shrines. Take a market walk and visit an old merchant house.

Days 10-14:

TAKAMATSU & OSAKA

Take a bullet train to Takamatsu, where you will join an udon noodle-making class and visit Ritsurin Park. Travel by ferry to Naoshima for lunch and art gallery visits. In Osaka, enjoy a free day, perhaps exploring Osaka Castle or visiting the observatory. On your final day, partake in a farewell dinner before your onward transfer the next morning.

We went with opens minds and couldn't believe how good the tour was, from start to finish. It was an active tour and everything was so interesting. We didn't want a shopping tour, there was too much else to enjoy, and we did!
