Day 3: Phnom Penh to Kampong Thom
Drive through picturesque rural Cambodia to Kampong Thom, stopping in Skuon where you can try local delicacies such as sautéed spiders. Visit a local enterprise and learn the traditional techniques of silk production from collecting the silk from the worms to the dyeing and weaving process. Enjoy a delicious home-cooked lunch. Explore Sambor Prei Kuk, the pre-Angkorian capital of the Chenla civilisation, and one of the oldest temple cities in Southeast Asia. This rarely visited temple complex was de-mined in 2008 and provides an insight into the historical development of temple architecture in Cambodia.

Day 4: Kampong Thom to Siem Reap
Continue your journey to Siem Reap along a section of road which was used during Angkorian times as a trading and pilgrimage highway. Take a boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake, the second largest freshwater lake in the world. The lake is the lifeblood of the country and the primary source of fish for most of the Cambodian population. Visit a floating village to see daily life as you cruise pass houses, schools and shops. In Siem Reap, the evening is free for you to independently explore the many dining options on offer.

Hotel: Damrei Angkor Hotel (or similar)

Day 5: Temples of Angkor
Venture to Angkor Wat’s seldom-used East Gate entrance by tuk-tuk. Marvel at the silhouetted central spires and explore the temple grounds away from the crowds. After witnessing a memorable sunrise over Angkor Wat, travel to the Angkor Thom complex, which includes Bayon temple, famous for its stone head sculptures. End the morning at jungle-enveloped Ta Prohm, one of the most atmospheric of the Angkorian temples. The afternoon is free for you to explore Siem Reap at your own pace.

Day 6: Outlying Temples
Travel through the countryside to two of the most interesting temples outside Angkor Thom – Banteay Srei and Boeng Mealea. Stop at a small roadside village that makes palm sugar and visit the fascinating Aki Ra Landmine Museum. Celebrate a memorable holiday with a farewell dinner with your fellow travellers.
