Small Group Tour Itinerary

2018

Day 1: Pakse
Located on the edge of the Mekong River, Pakse is a frontier town and a crossroad for trade between Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. Transfer to your hotel, and in the evening meet your fellow travellers and Tour Leader (or local guide).

Hotel: Pakse Hotel (or similar)

Day 2: Bolaven Plateau
Discover a few of the impressive waterfalls on the fertile Bolaven Plateau – Laos’ premier coffee-growing region. During colonial times the Bolaven Plateau was populated by French settlers who were attracted to the cooler climate and fertile soils which created ideal coffee-growing conditions. Today, Lao coffee beans fetch some of the highest prices in the world, and are a source of income for the hilltribes living on the plateau. Visit a small-scale Fair Trade organic coffee farm to sample a freshly brewed Arabica and Robusta coffee. Situated in a forest-setting, Tad Lo Lodge is nestled next to a stream and small waterfall where you may get a glimpse of a small herd of elephants bathing.

Hotel: Tad Lo Lodge (or similar)

Day 3: Bolaven Plateau to Khone Island
From the Bolaven Plateau continue your journey to Khone Island in the far south of Laos, a trip that includes a relaxing boat ride. This remote part of Laos is situated close to the Cambodian border and is known for its expansive waterways, powerful waterfalls and languid tropical atmosphere.

Hotel: Sala Done Khone (or similar)

Day 4: 4,000 Islands
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before driving to Ban Hang Done village to embark on a boat trip in search of the famous and elusive Irrawaddy dolphin. See Li Phi Falls before enjoying a walk through the forest and local villages to your hotel. Visit the remains of the sole railway built by the French during their time in Laos, and the bridge also built by the French which connects Done Khone with Done Det Island. Enjoy free time in the afternoon, and explore the islands at your own pace. Hire a bike or simply enjoy a relaxing stroll.

Hotel: Sala Done Khone (or similar)

Day 5: Wat Phou & Done Daeng Island
Travel to Khonephapheng Falls, the largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia in terms of water volume. Cross the Mekong River to La Folie Lodge and enjoy free time at the lodge. In the late afternoon, travel to Champasak to explore Wat Phou temple, a World Heritage listed site.

Hotel: La Folie Lodge (or similar)

Day 6: Done Daeng Island
Set out on a bike ride around Done Daeng Island, which is dotted with shoreline villages, rice fields and swaying coconut palms. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to further explore the island by bicycle or on foot. Alternatively, sip a cocktail by the hotel’s gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the Mekong. This evening, enjoy a delicious group dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

Hotel: La Folie Lodge (or similar)

Day 7: Done Daeng Island
Transfer to Pakse airport for your onward journey.
