On arrival in Chiang Rai in the Golden Triangle, transfer to your hotel. Meet your group of like-minded travellers and tour leader for welcome drinks and a briefing. Explore the Golden Triangle region on the way to an award-winning hilltop lodge overlooking Laos and the mighty Mekong. Take part in a batik class, run by your Hmong hosts before journeying to the border next morning fora slow boat down the tranquil Mekong. Float past traditional villages and rural scenery. Stay the night in the former trading post of Pakbeng, on the edge of the rugged Mekong.

Enjoy bathing and feeding elephants in a jungle setting, then cruise onwards to the Pak Ou Caves and its hundreds of Buddha statues. Glide in to beautiful Luang Prabang, a treasure-chest of architecture and culture, and your base for three nights. Explore highlight sites on foot, including the exquisite Royal Palace and the graceful Wat Mai and Xieng Thong temples. Take part in a leisurely game of petanque, and indulge in sunset mocktails in riverside temple grounds. Savour a delicious local noodle breakfast with a brew of French coffee, be calmed by the serene sight of monks collecting alms at dawn, and spend an evening taking part in bamboo weaving and in an interactive cooking class in a beautiful rural setting. Visit scenic Kuang Si Falls, and have ample free time to explore Luang Prabang's alleyways, alluring architecture, boutiques and cafes.

Fly to Vientiane. Visit the grand Patuxai monument, and the COPE Centre to learn about the impact of Indochina's 'Secret War'. Sample a Lao coffee, explore gilded That Luang and Wat Sisaket and have some free time. In the evening, be blessed at a baci ceremony and listen to a traditional music performance over a delicious 'jaew' dinner in a local house.

Fly to Phnom Penh and transfer to your hotel for welcome drinks. Discover Phnom Penh's rich French colonial past on a cyclo ride and explore the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. Reflect on the Pol Pot era Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields. Visit the colourful Central Market and the Olympic Stadium before enjoying a sunset cruise on the Mekong.

Drive to Kampong Thom, and witness traditional rural scenes. Discover a rubber plantation and local silk farm to see traditional weaving methods. Glide across Tonle Sap Lake by boat before arriving in Siem Reap. Walk through the jungle in darkness to see the sun rising over Angkor Wat, a sight you’ll never forget. Next, enjoy a local breakfast. Experience a unique monk blessing then visit tree-covered Ta Prohm. In the evening, you might like to see the unique Phare Circus, supporting Cambodia’s youth. Venture to remote Boeng Mealea temple, visit a landmine museum and a village producing palm sugar.

A delightful drive to Battambang brings you to a rice paper village and a chance to visit Ek Phnom, a temple built in the 11th century and mostly reduced to ruins today. In Battambang, enjoy the charming French-colonial architecture, and visit a pagoda where (if you’re lucky) you may have an opportunity to chat with the monks in residence. The next day, head to Banan temple, stopping en route at Cambodia’s only winery to sample some local wine. Afterwards, experience an exhilarating ride on the norry (or bamboo train) before visiting an ancient house. Late afternoon, climb Phnom Sampeau mountain’s infamous killing caves and witness thousands of bats flying out of the caves shortly before sunset. Return to Siem Reap by road on day 7, stopping at Artisans d'Angkor silk farm to learn the art of silk production. On your last day, enjoy free time until your departure transfer.
